Terrence Conran is hardly a new name to the London restaurant scene having been the primary force behind restaurants like The Soup Kitchen, Avenue, Plateau and Bluebird. In 2009 Conran debuted his latest food concept at Boundary with its three restaurants, two bars, bakery, gourmet store and 17-room on-site hotel. Located in a period building made of namesake Boundary stones in London's Shoreditch neighborhood, the area was once an edgy 19th Century manufacturing center that Karl Marx himself called home that's now fully hipsterized.
The business model lures more than your traditional London tourists. The concept has become ever popular with outlying city dwellers from London's Clapham or Hampstead who descend on Shoreditch for single or two-night stays. Visitors combine dinner in the restaurant and late-night drinks in the Boundary Rooftop with a stay in the hotel that frees them from chasing a pricey cab that's a cutthroat find in 2am London, or even worse, having to drive home.
The Room
A series of entry-level guest rooms are arranged on four floors, surrounded in period sash windows with Conran signature furnishings coupled with collectable pieces by Le Corbusier, Charles Eames and Andree Putnam. 4 additional duplex suites come with outdoor terraces and artwork on loan by the Conran’s, who together designed two of the suites themselves.
